CE Marking

Are you within the law?

On 1st July 2013 it became law for products sold in the EU and covered by a harmonised European Norm (hEN) or European Technical Assessment (ETA) to carry a CE mark.

Some suppliers have failed to meet the July 2013 CE mark deadline. As a distributer, contractor or specifier it is YOUR LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that any products you sell, oversee on site or specify are CE marked.

If products are not CE compliant your supplier is putting you at unnecessary risk of legal action. Failure to comply leaves you open to financial penalties and product withdrawal from Trading Standards, and puts you at risk of future product claims where a product is identified as illegal for not being CE compliant.

Gas Membranes Must Be CE Marked

There is no specific hEN (Harmonised European Norm) for Gas Membranes. However, Visqueen understands that because they are also required to act as a Damp Proof Membrane - whether as a primary or secondary function - they are subject to the DPM hEN and must be CE marked by law. Confirmation of this requirement can be obtained directly from the BBA (British Board of Agrément) - Tel. 01923 665 300 or visit www.bbacerts.co.uk

In their position as a leading warranty and insurance provider for UK house-building, the NHBC (National House-Building Council) has advised that an “independent assessment is required” in relation to both gas and damp proof membranes. This means that CE marking must be applied to all relevant products under their inspection.
